Welcome to St. Jude Off-Ice Website
Last Weeks Weekly Tips
Hey Hockey Players:

You are making good progress in your off-ice conditioning! It is very important you
continue to work on your skills and your muscle groups during the week at home!!! It
only takes six days of inactivity to loose everything you have gained. At the very least,
you should be doing some sort of core work every day. You can do sit ups – leg
raises during the commercials …….. hold a forward “Plank” for a commercial break
during a game…..The little things add a lot!!! Consistency is the key!

While you are playing X-Box, the other team is working on their skills!

Remember: You are St. Jude……..There are only two kinds of teams out there…….
those who have been beaten by St. Jude & those who haven’t had that experience
yet! Lets bring it to ‘em!

Believe it or Not……….The most crucial time in a game is not the last 2 minutes of
the third period……in fact ……it’s the 15 / 20 minutes before you even set foot on the ice.
This is the time when professional athletes get in “THE ZONE”. By this I mean they assess
their strengths, weaknesses, and determine the type of game they (personally) want to play
against their opponent.  Assuming the player is well rested, hydrated & “carbed up” for the
contest, (his / her) mind needs to get into focus and have a plan to work towards.

It’s difficult for many adults, let alone young athletes, to get away from life’s distractions at
game time. Try to work on only 1 thing each game & by the middle of the season, you will
be surprised how many ducks have fallen in a row and how well your game has improved!

It was once said “A mind is a terrible thing to waist.” Make sure that doesn’t happen to
    you!

All hands man your Battle Stations…..All ahead Flank,

    Coach Don

Simple things like setting an attainable goal for yourself – ie:
making at least five good, hard passes on the tape…….looking
before passing / shooting…….playing the body ..……. keeping the
stick on the ice……… are just a few examples of basic and
fundamental components that can make your game better.
Prioritize your goals and work on them in that order. Don’t get
discouraged if at first you don’t succeed……try, try again until you
    do!
